La manifattura è stata fondata in Villert nel 1858 da Charles-Yvan e Hippolyte Robert con l’obiettivo di assemblare i movimenti orologieri della fabbrica di “ébauche” in Fontaine-Melon. Nel 1878, Charles e Georges Robert proseguirono l’attività sull’impronta della famiglia e nel 1885 anche Yvan Robert si associò nella attività. Nel 1887 il simbolo della Manifattura, a forma di V, (una freccia che separa le lettere RF V (Robert Frères Villeret) fu ufficialmente brevettato. All’inizio del secolo la manifattura inziò a produrre movimenti per orologi da tasca con i seguenti calibri: Calibro N° 1, 18 – movimento a 18 linee con scappamento a cilindro, che restò in produzione fino al 1941 Calibro N° 2, movimento a 18 o 19 linee con uno scappamento svizzero a leva Calibro N° 3, movimento a 19 linee Nel 1908 la Manifattura iniziò la produzione del suo primo cronometro con il calibro 9CH. Nel 1923, il nome “Minerva” apparve sui quadranti degli orologi; fu successivamente rinominata “Fabrique Minerva, Robert Frères S.A.” quando iniziò la produzione degli orologi da polso. Uno di questi era il raffinato calibro 13-20 CH , un cronometro con movimento 12 ¾ linee che apparve sul mercato nel 1923. All’inizio degli anni ’30 la crisi finanziaria internazionale costrinse la famiglia Robert ad abbandonare l’attività; un ingegnere specializzato in meccanismi di orologeria Jacques Pelot ed un tecnico Charles Haussener divennero con successo responsabili della Manifattura. Ciò è anche dimostrato dall’incarico ricevuto, nel 1936, come Rilevatori Ufficiali dei tempi di gara alle Olimpiadi di sci a Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Nel 1940, Andre Frey, un nipote di Jaques Pelot, entrò nel della Manifattura che ancora gestisce per la terza generazione della famiglia Frey . The V-shaped trademark (an arrow splitting the letters RF V (Robert Frères Villeret) was officially protected in 1887. At the beginning of the century they started to manifacture movements for pocket-watches as: Caliber N° 1, 18 – ligne movement with cylinder escapment, in production until 1941 Caliber N° 2, 18 or 19 ligne movement with a Swiss lever escapement Caliber N° 3, 19 ligne movement. In 1908 they introduced the caliber 9CH, their first chronograph movement. In 1923 for the first time the name “Minerva” appeared for the first time on the watch successively renamed Fabrique Minerva, Robert Frères S.A. starting the production of wristwatches; one of them was the refined caliber 13-20 CH , 12 ¾ ligne chronograph movement wich appeared on the market in 1923. In the early ’30 the world financial crisis forced the Robert Family out of business and a watch engineer Jacques Pelot and a technician Charles Haussener became responsible of the Company with success demonstrated by their appointment as the Official time – keepers of the Olimpic ski events at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936. In 1940, Andre Frey, a nephew of Jaques Pelot, join the management of the Company wich is still managed by the third generation of the Frey Family.
