Georges Emile EBERHARD, nato a Saint-Imier nel 1865. Dopo il suo apprendistato alla età di soli 22 anni nel 1887 fondò in La Chaux -de-Fond la propria manifattura di orologi; i suoi affari crebbero velocemente e decise di concentrare la propria attività su orologi di precisione realizzando un nuovo cronografo da tasca. In 1919 i suoi figli, Georges and Maurice, entrarono nella Manifattura e nella convinzione che il futuro dell’orologeria apparteneva agli orologi da polso iniziarono a produrre il primo cronometro da polso; cronografo con un singolo pulsante prodotto per molti anni come orologio simbolo della Manifattura. Nel 1930 Eberhard & Co. presenta il suo primo orologio da polso con carica automatica e nello stesso anno la Eberhard diventa il fornitore ufficiale della Reale Marina Italiana. Nel 1935, la Manifattura presenta il suo primo cronografo a due pulsanti che permette di bloccare e riavviare ripetutamente la lancetta cronometrica. Nel 1938, la Manifattura presenta il cronografo con il doppio contatore a 30 minuti e 12 ore ed infine nel 1939 l’ultimo cronografo rattrappante ed il contatore delle 12 ore. Nel 1940, la Manifattura presenta il 16-linee Eberhard 1600; basato su movimento Valjoux. Caratteristica di questo cronografo è un piccolo pulsante a slitta a ore 4 che blocca o libera il pulsante dello start cronografico. Nel 1942 Maurice Eberhard diventa l’unico proprietario della manifattura. Nel 1962, dopo la morte accidentale della figlia M. Eberhard si ritira dall’attività e la Eberhard Co. Viene acquistata da imprenditori esterni. Georges Emile EBERHARD, born in Saint-Imier in 1865. After his apprenticeship and aged only 22 he set up in 1887 in La Chaux -de-Fond his own watchmaking workshop; as his business steadily increased, he decided to concentrate on precision timekeepers starting to produce a new pocket chronograph. In 1919 his sons, Georges and Maurice, joined the Company and recognizing that the future belonged to wristwatches they started in that year to produce the first chronographe for the wrist; a single button model developped for many years as flagship of the Company. In 1930 Eberhard & Co. launched its first wristwatch with automatic winding and in the same year the Company bicame official supplier to the Royal Italian Navy. In 1935, the Company introduced its first two button chronographe, that enabled repeated stops and starts. In 1938, vere available chronographs with 30 minutes and 12 hours elapsed-time and in 1939 the ultimate in chronographs with a split-seconds version with 12 hours counter. In 1940, the Brand introduced a 16 –ligne Eberhard 1600 movement – based on Valjoux caliber - With the distinctive feature of a small slide at four o’ clock that blocks or frees the chronograph button. In 1942 Maurice Eberhard became the sole owner of the Company. In 1962, after the accidental death of his daugther, he retired from the activity and Eberhard Co. was acquired by other investors.
